Great website and blog Steve! What an excellent concept to group onto a site, as I know many of my friends and myself are concerned about the same thing. I used to live in College Park, MD and loved how accessible the whole area is. I was wondering when you were going to feature Portland, Oregon as an excellent walkable area? Another useful tool you might like is www.walkscore.com. They rated our 55 and over housing Co-op as a walkers paradise! (97/100)

If you make it out to Portland let us know and we'll show you around...by foot. Have fun on your car-free adventure and keep spreading the good word.

I think it's important to note, however, that all of these MTA bus options only apply if you live in Columbia and work in DC. They do not operate both ways.

If you want to commute TO Columbia FROM DC, you're out of luck.

Dear Andrew,

I would Not advise parking at Columbia Mall if you are commuting.

Instead, consider the Scaggsville Park& Ride (off Route 216, west of Route 29). Nearly all the 929 and 915 commuter buses to Silver Spring and Washington stop there, and it's a lot less crowded than Columbia Mall.

Hope this is helpful. (Sorry I took so long to reply--I just saw your comment today.)

Is it safe for commuters to park at Columbia Mall or will their cars be towed?
